[From the It Takes Ages To Get A Taxi Via IM Department]

A colleague of mine next to me is currently handling half a dozen IM conversations, but he's topping out. I guess his attention span is being slashdotted but in IM. SpanDotted, or maybe the SpanDot Effect. Email would be easier at this point, assuming he could find the email amidst the spam haystack of his inbox. The lesson? Synchronous systems are nicely interactive but don't scale; aynschronous ones scale, but are overrun with spam. Or something like that.
